Elgin, Ill., Nov. 4, 2021 – The Elgin Community College women's basketball team opened home competition with a 62-37 loss to Illinois Valley.
The Spartans dip to 0-2 on the season.
IVCC won the toss and ran it into a layup in the first possession. Jessie Dumoulin hit her first three of the game at 2:00 to take the 3-2 lead.
Ariann Franco grabbed a steal and ran it down the floor before passing to Layla Tiongco for a layup at 2:45.
Dumoulin scored her second three-pointer as the shot clock buzzed with three minutes left in the quarter.
Trinity Reyes put her first points on the board at the end of the first with a layup from her steal.
Isabella Yambo scored with an assist from Tiongco to start the second quarter.
ECC put eight points up in the final five minutes of the half with a layup from Takara Campbell, a free throw and another three from Dumoulin and a layup from Ariana Marchan with an assist from Franco.
The Eagles outshot the Spartans to wrap up the first half with a 42-23 edge.
IVCC started the second half off with seven unanswered points in the first three minutes as ECC held them scoreless for the following two.
Tiongco earned a trip to the line and broke the Eagles scoring streak with a point on her second free throw attempt.
Tiongco hit a breakway layup thanks to Franco's assist about halfway through the third.
The game remained at a standstill as neither team scored for the remainder of the quarter.
ECC scored the first three of the fourth quarter with a jump shot from Dumoulin and a free throw from Campbell.
Dumoulin and Campbell found layups as Tiongco hit a three-pointer as the game wrapped with a 62-37 loss.
The Spartans host Madison College on Saturday with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
