Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community Community College baseball team suffered a 12-9 loss in 10 innings to DuPage on Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 4-13 in their overall season.
Caleb Williams made his collegiate debut on the mound and collected three strikeouts in two innings. Alex Schiefer, Kyle Wayda, Casey Kaszniak and Matthew Rosado all came in for relief and combined for an additional 10 strikeouts.
COD led 8-2 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.
Maddux Clarence led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second and third on separate wild pitches during Austin Daubenmire's at-bat. Daubenmire was hit by a pitch and Brennan Coyle drew a walk to load up the bases. Nathan Gerritsen earned an RBI walk and Saubenmire scored on a wild pitch while Connor Lund was up to bat. Ryan Schneider hit it into an RBI single followed by Wyatt Sabalaskey's third home run of the season to bring in three runs and tie up the game 8-8.
The tie forced a 10th inning where the Chaps brought in four runs. Gerritsen led off with a double and and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Carter Novelli's single to third. ECC was not able to bring in any more runs as they fell short with a 12-9 final score.
The Spartans host Rock Valley on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
