Women's Soccer Steadily Improving

Elgin, Ill., Sept. 15, 2021 - The Elgin Community College women's soccer team clinched a 1-0 win over Prairie State on Wednesday night.

The Spartans improve to 3-2-1 as the Pioneers dip to 1-2-1.

ECC continued its pattern of taking offensive control early in the game, marking multiple shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of play.

Possession was switched often and shots on goal were unsuccessful as the game remained scoreless through 29 minutes.

Morelia Gonzalez passed the ball in front of Mia Kraft, giving her several steps to make a huge kick from deep right to score into the left corner of the net at 29:36. The opposing keeper hardly moved as she expected the shot to sail wide.

Prairie State was typically in control during the second half, but with ace defenders and Joana Mercado in goal, they were unable to capitalize on any opportunities.

The Spartans secured the 1-0 win as they continue to improve. In the last four games, the women secured three wins and a tie after starting off the season at 0-2.

The women have already tallied 20 goals this season, just five shy of what they totaled during the spring season.

Next up for the Spartans is a home match against Waubonsee on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
