Soccer Wins First ISCC Match

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College men's soccer team won 5-1 over McHenry on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Scots move to 0-4-2 and 0-2.

Joel Gutierrez recorded his second hat trick of the season. Miguel Navarro tallied four shots, including two on goal. Joas Plancarte registered three shots as Luis Rubio and Ruben Guadalajara tallied two each.

Iker Villagomez registered five saves with Andrew Capps recording one.

Gutierrez scored in the 11th and 17th minutes with assists from Andrew Montenegro and Rubio.

McHenry countered with a goal in the 36th to enter halftime with a 2-1 score.

Omar Olivo and Andrew Montenegro found the back of the net in the 50th and 55th minutes, respectively, with Jesus Alonso and Plancarte on the assists.

Gutierrez scored his third goal as Rubio recorded his second assist in the 62nd minute to make it a 5-1 game.

The Spartans travel to Waubonsee on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
