Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College men's soccer team scored 41 seconds into overtime to secure a 4-3 win over Lake County.
The Spartans improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-2 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Lancers dip to 1-6 and 1-4.
Chris Reyes scored at 18:38 to put the first point on the board. The Lancers scored a goal 14 minutes later to make it a 1-1 game entering halftime.
Kobe Frenette put the ball in the back of the net off of a penalty kick at 57:24. CLC quickly recovered to tie it back up at 2-2 with 21 minutes remaining in the game.
Omar Lara scored at 78:49 for ECC's third goal, but Lake County secured a penalty kick and scored at 80:08 to push the game into overtime with a 3-3 tie.
At the whistle, the Lancers got the ball to Elgin's side before ECC efficiently gained control. Sammy Rodriguez headed the ball to Jamie Hernandez, who quickly passed the ball back to Rodriguez and then back to Hernandez.
He separated himself from defenders, crossed the pass where Juan David Pacheco headed the ball into the upper right hand of the goal to end the overtime 41 seconds in with the 4-3 victory.
The Spartans travel to Madison, Wis. to face Madison College on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
