Elgin, Ill., Oct. 12, 2021 – The Elgin Community College men's soccer team suffered a 9-2 loss to No. 2 Prairie State on Tuesday.
The Spartans dip to 6-6 as the Pioneers improve to 12-1.
Prairie State put the first point on the board at the 1:37 mark as they were able to sneak the ball into the lower corner of the net.
The Spartans registered two shots in the 39 and 36-minute marks, with the first being a shot on goal, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
The Pioneers found its second goal of the game at 11:12 to take the early 2-0 lead.
The third goal came at 26:56 as Prairie State's offense got past the Elgin defense and were able to score with the ball arching over the goalkeeper.
A penalty kick at 16:46 was the fourth goal of the game as the ball made its way to the lower left corner of the net.
Prairie State continued to control the game, making it 6-0 to wrap up the first half with goals in the 39th and 42nd minutes.
Carlos Ibarra put the first Spartan point on the board in the 54th minute to prevent the shutout with an assist from Josh Madsen.
Elgin continued to have a much better second half as they cut down on Prairie State's shots and control.
The Pioneers scored three goals in the final 16 minutes at 15:34, 13:39 and 5:28 remaining.
Cesar Palomares found the back left corner of the net from Nathan Ludwig's assist in the 88th minute to finish with a 9-2 final score.
Jose Banuelos, Palomares, Madsen and Ibarra recorded two shots with Kobe Frenette, Matt Polovin and Mark Rubio tallying one apiece.
Harvey Partida registered three saves and Emilio Martinez grabbed two.
The Spartans conclude regular season play at the College of DuPage on Saturday with the game beginning at 12 p.m.
