Cicero, Ill., Sept. 2, 2021 - The Elgin Community College men's soccer team was edged 2-1 in its first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match-up of the season.

The Spartans dip to 0-2 as the No. 6 Panthers improve to 4-0.

Kobe Frenette scored the first goal of the season in the 31st minute from his left foot with an assist from Josh Madsen to take the 1-0 lead.

Morton countered with a goal off of a penalty kick in the 40th to tie up the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Panthers took the lead for the first time of the game at 62 minutes when a kick from the top of the box found its way to the back of the net.

The Spartans had a potential game-tying shot in the 89th minute, but it hit the crossbar to result in the 2-1 loss.

Goalkeeper Harvey Partida recorded eight saves.

Offensively, Frenette, Cesar Palomares and Jose Banuelos tallied two shots with Madsen and Patrick Daley grabbing one apiece.

The Spartans open up home play against McHenry County College on Thursday at 4 p.m.
