Elgin and Palos Hills, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team swept Moraine Valley in a two-game series.
The Spartans improve to 18-22-1 overall and finish Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play in third with a 9-5 record.
Game One: Moraine Valley 3, Elgin 6
Josh Caccia collected his third win of the season as he struck out six batters in seven innings. Kyle Wayda earned a save as he tallied two strikeouts in the top of the ninth inning.
Brennan Coyle registered a team-high three hits with one run. Ryan Schneider, Wyatt Sabalaskey, Matthew Brunscheen and Jack Perrone each brought in an RBI.
Game Two: Elgin 8, Moraine Valley 4
Alex Schiefer earned his first collegiate win with five strikeouts in five innings. Wayda and Nic DiMarzio each pitched one inning of relief apiece.
Team leaders included Nathan Gerritsen in runs (four) and hits (three) and Ryan Schneider in RBI (three).
The Spartans finish their regular season on the road at Triton on Saturday and at South Suburban on Sunday.
