Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell in game one, but rallied back for a game two win against Joliet on Sunday.
The Spartans move to 13-8 in their overall season.
Game One: JJC 5, ECC 2
Joliet scored one run in the top of the first for an early lead.
Jack Kerno doubled and scored on Aiden Kashuba's ground ball to push the first run across and tie the game at 1-1 after one inning.
Daniel Blickhan earned a walk followed by a single from Chris Lara. Andrew Flynn sacrificied to advance the runners ahead. Matthew Brunscheen hit it into a sacrifice fly for the second Spartan run.
JJC scored three runs in the third and one in the fifth to lead 5-2 after five innings.
Calvin Bredlau pitched 2.1 innings of relief and only allowed one hit, no runs and collected two strikeouts.
Elgin was unable to chip away at the deficit to result in a game one loss.
Game Two: JJC 4, ECC 5
Leth Pearson collected his second win of the season, pitching six innings and recording five strikeouts. Jim Bluemling earned his first save of the season after facing five batters in the seventh.
The Wolves scored one in the top of the first inning.
Austin Alonso and Chris Lara led off the second inning with singles. Reed Burns reached on an error that allowed Alonso to score. Lara and Burns advanced to second and third base on a passed ball and Enzo Novelli earned a walk to load the bases. Carter Novelli's groundout pushed Lara home for a 2-1 advantage.
Joliet tied it up 2-2 after four innings and led 3-2 after the top of the fifth.
Nick Weaver led of fthe bottom of the inning by being hit by a pitch before he advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on Kerno's groundout. Aiden Kashuba was hit by a pitch and stole second during Alonso's at-bat. Weaver scored on a passed ball to make it a 3-3 game after five innings.
Jonathan Bayler singled and Brunscheen was brought in to pinch run in the sixth. C. Novelli walked and Weaver was hit by a pitch to load the bases on two outs. Kerno was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and C. Novelli scored on a wild pitch to take the lead back at 5-3.
Elgin was able to hold Joliet to just one run to earn the 5-4 win.
The Spartans host McHenry for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
