Madison, Wis. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split games on day one of the NJCAA Division II Region 4 Sectional Tournament on Friday.
The game one victory over College of Lake County advances the team to day two of the tournament.
Game One: ECC 13, CLC 3
Erik Teran II led the offense with two runs, two RBI, a home run, double and two singles. Logan Riley tallied four singles with two runs and three RBI as Ryan Caccia recorded three runs.
Jaden Jones pitched the full seven innings and recorded three strikeouts.
Jaden Alberson led off the first inning by reaching on an error, advancing to second on Riley's hit and third on Teran's bunt. Gavin Crofoot's groundout allowed Alberson to score the first run of the game.
Caccia earned a walk and Jack Keck put them both in scoring position with a double in the top of the second. Alberson's at bat allowed Caccia to score and Keck made it home on Riley's hit. Teran singled to load up the bases and Charlie Jury and Crofoot had back-to-back RBIs to take a 5-0 lead.
Lake County scored one in the bottom of the second.
Caccia led off the third with a double, advanced to third on Keck's pop up and scored on Alberson's groundout. Riley got on base with a single and Teran hit his fifth home run of the season to make it an 8-1 game.
CLC scored two in the bottom of the fourth for their third run.
Elgin loaded the bases in the top of the fifth after Teran's double and Crofoot and Ryan Nelson being hit by a pitch. Nathan Euliano and Keck earned RBI walks followed by a one-run single from Alberson for the 11th run.
Riley hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to end the game early with a 13-3 final score.
Game Two: ECC 1, MATC 12
Alberson registered two singles and the sole run of the game. Teran, Jury and Riley each tallied one single.
Drew Piaskowy made the start and recorded three strikeouts. Matt Reuscher and Frank Szymanski came in for a total of one inning of relief and combined for three strikeouts.
Madison scored runs in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead.
Alberson singled in the top of the third and advanced to second on a wild pitch and made it to third on a single from Riley before scoring the sole run of the game on a wild pitch.
MATC scored four in the third and sixth in the fourth to end the game after five innings.
The Spartans play Madison on Saturday at noon. A victory forces a 3 p.m. game to determine which team advances to the Region 4 Tournament next weekend.
