Baseball Defeats No. 8 Joliet

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team clinched a 7-3 victory over No. 8 Joliet.

The Spartans improve to 18-24 in their overall season.

Frank Szymanski made the start on the mound, picking up his third win of the season. Matt Reuscher and Luke Cano came in for relief. Cano closed the final 2.2 innings and recorded three strikeouts.

Nathan Euliano led the offense with three RBI and two runs.

Joliet took an early lead with runs in the first and fourth innings.

ECC countered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs. Ryan Nelson, Erik Teran II and Charlie Jury loaded the bases from a walk and two were hit by pitches. Euliano's earned an RBI walk followed by a one-run single from Logan Riley to tie up the game.

Ryan Caccia grounded out and Scott Emma hit a sacrifice fly for the fourth run.

The Wolves scored one run in the fifth to tighten the game up to 3-4.

Euliano led off the sixth by getting hit by a pitch and stealing second. Caccia singled to right field to send Euliano home.

Nelson and Charlie Jury were both hit by a pitch to get on base and scored on Euliano's double to center field to result in the 7-3 victory.

The Spartans host Highland on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
