Spartans Sweep Oakton

Des Plaines, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team swept Oakton in a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 11-22 overall and 3-9 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Owls move to 14-19 and 4-8.

Game 1: ECC 4, OCC 2

Drew Piaskowy made the start and recorded six strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Jaden Jones came in for relief and earned his first win of the season. Nathan Euliano hit the go-ahead single to take the lead as another run scored on an error.

Oakton scored a run in the bottom of the first and held onto the lead through five innings.

A slew of walks tied up the game in the top of the sixth before the Owls countered with a run in the bottom of the inning to take back the lead at 1-2.

Josh Genz and Erik Teran II hit back-to-back singles and Josh Collins got on base on an error to load up the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh. Euliano singles to right field to bring in two runs, with the third coming on an error, to secure an advantage.

Jones threw 12 pitches to end the game with the 4-2 victory.

Game 2: ECC 8, OCC 5

Ryan Nelson recorded a team-high three RBI and Teran tallied two RBI and two runs. Adrian Ruiz earned the win with Daniel Kinney being credited with the save.

Euliano led off the second inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Patrick Nelson earned a walk to get on base. R. Nelson singled to advance Euliano home while he and P. Nelson advanced to second and third on an error. Jaden Alberson hit and RBI for the second Spartan run of the game.

Oakton countered to take a 2-5 lead in the bottom of the inning.

Teran walked and Logan Riley doubled to start out the sixth. R. Nelson hit a two-run double to tighten the score up to 4-5.

Ryan Caccia and Gavin Crofoot hit back-to-back singles to lead off the seventh inning. Teran's third triple of the season allowed both to score and take the lead. Collins and P. Nelson recorded RBIs to clinch the 8-5 win.

The Spartans host Kankakee on Thursday at 3 p.m.
