Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team suffered a pair of losses to Moraine Valley on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 9-22 overall and 1-9 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Cyclones improve to 5-24 and 3-7.
Game 1: ECC 4, MVCC 12
Moraine Valley scored seven runs in the first and second innings to take an early lead.
Gavin Crofoot led off the third with a triple and scored a run on Charlie Jury's single to right field.
Josh Collins hit a double to start off the fifth and advanced home on Nathan Euliano's first triple of the season. Euliano scored on Erik Teran II's single to make it a 9-3 ball game.
The Cyclones countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Ryan Caccia and Owen Cutinello earned walks followed by an RBI single from Jaden Alberson to finish the game with a 4-12 final score.
Game 2: ECC 5, MVCC 12
Elgin scored five runs in the first two innings to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Teran got on base from a fielder's choice and made it to second on an error. Max Hertel tripled to score the first run of the game. Patrick Nelson followed up with an RBI for the 2-0 advantage.
Ty Sierpien advanced to first after being hit by a pitch and scored on Crofoot's double to right field. Euliano earned a walk and Teran hit it into a two-run double for the fifth run.
MVCC ran away with the game, scoring 12 runs in three innings for the 5-12 final.
The Spartans are back on the road to face Oakton for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
