Baseball Bested by No. 14 McHenry

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team lost both games to No. 14 McHenry on Tuesday afternoon.

The Spartans move to 8-18 overall and 1-7 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Scots improve to 24-4 and 8-0.

Game 1: MCC 14, ECC 3

Charlie Jury led the offense with two runs, two RBI and his first collegiate home run. 

Three walks in a row loaded up the bases in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Nelson hit a sacrifice fly to put Elgin's first run on the board.

The Scots scored 14 runs in the second, third and fifth innings.

Josh Collins singled in the fifth to get on base followed by Jury hitting a two-run homer for a 14-3 final score.

Game 2: MCC 17, ECC 5

Patrick Nelson and Jury hit home runs and also recorded two RBI and one run apiece. Daniel Kinney tallied a team-high four strikeouts in two innings.

McHenry took an 15-0 lead but Elgin countered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Jury began the inning with a solo homer followed by Logan Riley getting hit by a pitch and advancing on Scott Emma's single. Both advanced one base on Ty Sierpien's groundout and scored on Collins' single to right field. P Nelson hit his first home run of the season to bring in Collins for the fifth run.

Despite the five-run rally, ECC fell short at 17-5.

The Spartans are on the road to face Joliet on Thursday at 3 p.m.
