Baseball Falls to Waubonsee

Sugar Grove, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell in a pair of games to Waubonsee on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans move to 8-14 overall and 1-3 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Chiefs improve to 9-14 and 4-0.

Game 1: Elgin 3, Waubonsee 8

Patrick Nelson led the offense with one run and two RBI. Gavin Crofoot and Logan Riley scored the other two runs with Charlie Jury tallying the third RBI. Adrian Ruiz made the start on the mound and recorded five strikeouts.

Elgin scored all three runs in the first inning. Waubonsee's came in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth for the 3-8 final score.

Game 2: Elgin 3, Waubonsee 9

Jury recorded two RBI with himself, Erik Teran II and Nelson bringing in the runs. Frank Szymanski registered a team-high four strikeouts.

WCC scored three runs in the second and third before Elgin countered with three runs of their own in the fourth inning.

Nelson and Teran walked and advanced a base on a wild pitch. Jury hit it into a two-run RBI double and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-3 game.

Waubonsee would run away with the lead for a 9-3 final score.

The Spartans host Lake County on Monday at 2 p.m.
