Baseball Suffers Loss on the Road

Kankakee, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 11-6 to Kankakee on Thursday afternoon. KCC is receiving votes in the NJCAA DII Baseball Rankings.

The Spartans move to 7-11 overall as the Cavaliers improve to 17-6.

Gavin Crofoot went 4-for-6 with two RBI and one run. Erik Teran II was 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run. Patrick Nelson scored two runs on the day.

Isaac Kopalchick registered seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings on the mound.

Elgin put the first run on the board on Teran's RBI double in the first inning.

The Cavaliers countered to make it a 1-1 ballgame at the end of the inning before scoring two runs in the third for a 3-1 advantage.

ECC loaded the bases in the fourth with Nelson scoring on a wild pitch to tighten the game up to one run.

Kankakee extended the lead to 7-2 with four runs in the fifth inning.

Both teams scored one run in the sixth with Elgin bringing two in in the seventh. KCC countered yet again with a run in the bottom of the inning for a 9-5 lead.

Teran hit a double and scored on a ground ball for the sixth run. Kankakee brought in two more runs for the 11-6 final score.

The Spartans travel to Wauwatosa, Wis. to face Bryant & Stratton on Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
