Lakeland, Fla. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Rockland on Friday.
The Spartans move to 3-5 in their season.
Game One: Rockland 11, Elgin 1
Nathan Euliano recorded the single RBI with Gavin Crofoot registering the run.
Rockland took an early advantage with seven runs in the first three innings followed by four in the fifth.
Crofoot led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double and scored on Euliano's single to left field. ECC would come up short for the 11-1 loss after five innings.
Game Two: Rockland 0, Elgin 5
Adrian Ruiz led the pitching staff with a win in five innings with seven strikeouts.
Team leaders included Andrew Flynn in runs (two) and Owen Cutinello and Aiden Kashuba in hits (two). Cutinello, Josh Collins, Max Hertel, Eli Johnson and Scott Emma each recorded one RBI.
Flynn and Hertel started off the third inning by being walked and advancing to second and third from Johnson's sacrifice fly. Collins hit a single to second for Flynn to score. Emma's groundout allows Hertel to score and send Collins to third base. Cutinello hit an RBI single to left field for the third run of the inning.
Elgin scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings to bounce back for the 5-0 shutout.
The Spartans face their final opponent of the Spring Trip, Washington & Jefferson, on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST.
