Baseball Falls in Season Opener

River Grove, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 8-3 to Triton on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans start their season at 0-1 as the Trojans move to 6-4.

Erik Teran II tallied one run on two hits as Josh Collins and Gavin Crofoot registered one run on one hit. Scott Emma, Logan Riley and Nathan Euliano recorded one RBI.

Jaden Alberson led the pitching staff with two strikeouts. Matt Reuscher, Isaac Kopalchick, Bryce Ebert, Frank Szymanski and Alberson start their seasons with 0.0 ERAs. Cano and Reuscher were the most efficient on the mound as they faced three batters and threw just eight pitches.

Triton put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Teran singled and advanced to second on Alijah Acevedo's single to right field. Emma hit an RBI single to tie the game up 1-1 before the Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the second.

Collins and Crofoot hit singles followed by an RBI single from Riley to tie it up 2-2. Crofoot advanced to third after tagging up on a pop fly and before scoring on Euliano's line drive to center field for a 3-2 edge.

Triton scored four runs in the top of the seventh and two in the bottom of the eighth for athe 8-3 win over Elgin.

The Spartans will be in Florida March 13-20 for their Spring Break trip. They open play against No. 20 Florida Southwestern on Tuesday, March 14 at 1 p.m. CST.
