Bonick Earns Dick Durrant Award

Dick Durrant Sophomore Academic Athletes of the Year

Elgin Community College baseball player Sam Bonick was named an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) Dick Durrant Sophomore Academic Athlete of the Year Winner.

This prestigious award is given annually to the ISCC male and female student-athletes with the highest grade point average after four semesters. Bonick is one of five male athletes in the conference that maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout their college career.

The award is named after Dick Durrant, who was a teacher, coach and athletic director at Elgin Community College from 1961 through 1985. Durrant championed the philosophy of academic as well as athletic excellence while at Elgin.

In the 2022 baseball season, Bonick played 6.1 innings in seven game appearances and registered seven strikeouts.
