Madison, Wis. - The Elgin Community College baseball team concluded its season with 8-2 and 12-1 losses to Madison College in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 Sectional on Friday.
The Spartans end its 2022 campaign with a 23-21 overall record. The Wolfpack improves to 41-8 and advances to the Region 4 Final.
Game 1: Madison 8, Elgin 2
Derek Angelo led the team going three-for-four at the plate with two RBIs. Scott Emma, Eli Johnson and Nick Schumann collected two hits apiece. Adrian Ruiz made the start at the mound and struckout three batters in 4.2 innings.
Emma got things rolling in the third inning with a single and advanced to second on Luis Rodriguez's sacrifice. Nik Panico was hit by a pitch to lead the bases. Angelo hit a hard ground ball into right field to push the first run across the plate.
Madison scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
Schumann singled to left and used his speed to score on Angelo's hit to center field to tighten the game up in the top of the fifth to 5-2.
The Wolfpack scored one run in the fifth and two in the seventh to clinch the win at 8-2.
Game 2: Madison 12, Elgin 1
Alijah Acevedo and Scott Emma registered the sole hits of the game.
Madison scored three runs in the third and nine runs in the fourth inning to lead 12-0.
Johnson walked and Riley reached on an error in the top of the fifth. Acevedo singled to center field to bring Johnson home.
Despite finding some rhythm, it was not enough to keep the game going as the team fell 12-1 to end its season.
