Baseball Edged by No. 2 Madison

Madison, Wis. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 2-1 and 7-1 to No. 2 Madison Area Technical College on Sunday.

The Spartans move to 23-19 as the Wolfpack improves to 39-8.

Game 1: Madison 2, Elgin 1

Logan Riley and Erik Teran II led the team with two hits as Teran registered the lone RBI. Justin "JZ" Zimmerman tallied four strikeouts in his five innings on the mound.

MATC took the lead early with its two runs in the first inning.

Nick Schumann doubled in the fourth and advanced to third on Derek Angelo's flyout. Teran sent him home with a hard ground ball to center field.

Elgin could not make up the deficit as they were edged 2-1.

Game 2: Madison 7, Elgin 1

Schumann and Nick Panico tallied two hits as Scott Emma earned an RBI. Adrian Ruiz struckout five batters in three innings.

Madison struck early again with three runs in the first and two in the third inning.

ECC scored one run in the fourth once again after loading up the bases with singles from Teran and Riley and Mauricio Grosso earning a walk. Emma was hit by a pitch to push a run across.

MATC scored two more runs in the fifth inning to hand Elgin its second loss of the day at 7-1.

The Spartans travel to Madison, Wis. for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 Tournament on Friday. Opponents and start times are to be determined.
