Schumann Hits Walk-Off as Baseball Downs DuPage

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team clinched a 9-8 victory over the College of DuPage on Monday.

The Spartans improve to 18-12 as the Chaps move to 18-10.

Connor Collins earned the win with two innings pitched and preventing any hits. Erik Teran II went 4-for-5 with an RBI and Nik Panico and Derek Angelo each registered two RBI on the day.

COD put runs on the board in the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead.

Teran got things rolling in the bottom of the second with a solo homer. Eli Johnson followed by getting on base after being hit by a pitch. Logan Riley grounded out to advance Johnson to second followed by a single from Lorenzo Ranallo to push Johnson to third. Luis Rodriguez hit an RBI double to tie up the game at 2-2. Panico hit a hard single to center field to bring in two more runs for the 4-2 advantage after two innings.

Schumann walked and Teran singled in the bottom of the fifth inning. A balk from the pitcher sent Schumann home for a fifth run for the Spartans.

The Chaps scored five runs in the seventh to take back the lead at 7-5.

Alijah Acevedo and Rodriguez earned back to back walks to start out the eighth inning. Angelo hit a two-run single to center field to tie up the game and advanced to second on the throw to home. Teran's single pushed Angelo to third and scored on an error for the 8-7 lead entering the final inning.

COD scored one run in the top of the ninth to tie the game up once again.

Riley hit a single and advanced to second on Scott Emma's sacrifice. Rodriguez earned a walk and Panico singled to load up the bases. Nick Schumann hit a hard ground ball to right field to earn the walk-off win for Elgin. 

The Spartans travel to Palatine, Ill. to face Harper College for a single game on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
