Riley's Go-Ahead Homer Lifts Baseball to Series Win

Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team split a pair of games with Moraine Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 17-12 and 9-4 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Cyclones improve to 7-22 and 2-11.

Game 1: Elgin 11, Moraine Valley 1

Derek Angelo and Logan Riley each registered three RBI as they Eli Johnson, Erik Teran II and Luis Rodriguez tallied two hits.

Frank Szymanski earned the win at the mound in five innings with nine strikeouts.

Angelo hit his first homer of the season in the first inning to bring in three runs.

Moraine Valley scored its lone run of the game with a home run fourth inning.

Elgin put up six runs in the fifth inning starting with a single from Teran and walk for Nathan Euliano. Riley singled to bring in Teran and Lorenzo Ranallo got on base with a walk.

Rodriguez hit a two-run double and Nik Panico tripled and made it home off of an error for the final run of the inning.

Angelo and Johnson singled and Euliano reached on an error to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Riley hit it into a two-run double to end the game early.

Game 2: Elgin 8, Moraine Valley 7

Riley and Schumann led the team with three RBI. Matt Reuscher earned the win in two innings with Luke Cano earning the save after pitching the final inning.

Moraine Valley scored four runs in the first inning and one in the second for an early 5-0 advantage.

Riley singled and Schumann homered in the third inning before MVCC found another two runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 7-2 game.

Elgin found another big fifth inning with four runs. Riley, Schumann and Johnson hit RBI singles and one more came in after Teran was hit by a pitch to tighten it up to 7-6.

Teran singled and Riley hit the game-winning home run for the 8-7 victory.

The Spartans host the College of DuPage in a pair of games on Sunday beginning at noon.
