Baseball Claims Two Blow-Out Victories at Prairie State

Chicago Heights, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team clinched 16-1 and 15-2 victories over Prairie State on Wednesday.

The Spartans move to 14-12 overall and 7-4 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play as the Pionerrs dip to 10-23 and 2-9.

Game 1: Elgin 16, Prairie State 1

Logan Riley led the team with three hits and Erik Teran and Luis Rodriguez brought in four RBI. Adrian Ruiz earned the win in five innings at the mound and registering five strikeouts.

Elgin put seven runs on the board in the first inning with two walks and seven singles.

Teran hit a three-run homer to left for the 10-0 advantage in the third inning.

The Pioneers put its lone run on the board in the bottom of the third.

Three walks, a single from Riley and Schumann's groundout pushed three more runs across in the fourth inning.

Elgin scored three runs in the top of the fifth for the 16-run final. Carter Askew doubled to start the inning, Jared Oliver walked, Riley doubled, Rodriguez singled and the final run came from an error.

Game 2: Elgin 15, Prairie State 2

 

Brett Huiner earned the win at the mound in four innings with five strikeouts. Riley, Teran, Rodriguez and Panico each registered two hits to lead the team.

Elgin scored eight unanswered runs in the first three innings. The biggest inning came in the fourth with six runs.

Teran and Johnson singled followed by walks from Alijah Acevedo and Scott Emma to push the first run across the plate. Rodriguez hit a two-run double followed by an RBI single from Panico. Angelo hit it into a two-run double for the final runs of the inning.

The Pioneers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth.

Riley scored the final run of the game with a solo homerun to left field.

PSC found one more run in the fifth inning before falling 15-2.

The Spartans host Harper on Thursday for a single game at 3 p.m.
