Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 11-9 to Kankakee on Thursday.
The Spartans dip to 9-9 as the Cavaliers improve to 27-5.
Nick Schumann brought in a team-high four runs as Derek Angelo and Erik Teran II each brought in two RBI.
Luis Rodriguez singled and Schumann earned a walk to start the first inning. Angelo hit it into a one-run double and Schumannn scored on an error to take an early 2-0 lead.
Kankakee put runs on the board in the second and third innings.
ECC loaded up the bases in the second when three batters were hit by a pitch. Teran drove in the runner from third with a fielder's choice and Acevedo singled for the 4-2 advantage.
KCC tightened it up to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning.
Schumann and Teran each hit solo homeruns in the fifth to tack two more runs onto the board.
Kankakee tied up the game at 6-6 in the top of the seventh and took the lead for the first time of the game in the eighth at 8-6. Two homers in the top of the ninth extended its lead to 11-6 entering the bottom of the ninth.
Schumann started out the inning with a double and advanced on Angelo's hard ground ball to right field. Teran singled and he and Angelo advanced when Alijah Acevedo and Eli Johnson grounded out. The team was not able to keep its offense rolling as they fell 11-9.
The Spartans travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday at 2 p.m.
