Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell 9-5 to Morton College in game one, but rallied for a 6-8 game two victory on Monday.
The Spartans move to 8-7 as the Panthers improve to 19-7.
Game 1: Morton 9, Elgin 5
ECC fell behind early and was not able to make up the deficit as Morton scored its nine runs in four innings.
Logan Riley brought in the team-high two runs and Alijah Acevedo doubled twice to lead the team.
Luis Rodriguez led off and reached first on an error and advanced to third on Nik Panico and Nick Schumann's groundouts. Derek Angelo hit an RBI single to put a run on the board.
Elgin loaded the bases in the fifth after earning three walks. Lorenzo Ranallo hit it into a fielder's choice to drive in one run. Panico's double sent Scott Emma home for the third run and Acevdeo hit it into a one-run double for the fourth run.
The Spartans scored its final run of the game in the seventh when Graham Rachow singled followed by another double from Acevedo. Emma singled to center field to drive in the fifth and final run.
Game 2: Elgin 8, Morton 6
Elgin took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when Eli Johnson hit it into a three-run double. Jon Howard earned a save after striking out the final batter of the game.
Panico was hit by a pitch and scored off of an error. Erik Teran singled to second base to bring Angelo home for the 2-1 lead at the end of the first.
Morton tied it up at 2-2 in the second inning.
Rodriguez singled to start the third inning followed by Panico hitting his second homerun of the season to make it a 4-2 game.
The Panthers scored runs in the fourth and six innings to tie the game up once again.
ECC loaded up the bases in the sixth with two walks and reaching on an error. Johnson doubled to center to bring all of the runners home before he scored on a wild pitch during Rodriguez's at bat for the 8-4 win.
The Spartans travel to Grayslake, Ill., to face the College of Lake County on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
