Elgin, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team was edged 6-5 by Oakton Community College on Tuesday. Game two was suspended due to darkness, but ECC leads 2-0 entering the fifth inning.

The Spartans move to 7-4 as the Owls improve to 9-7.

Game 1: Oakton 6, Elgin 5

Oakton put the first run on the board in the first inning after two singles and an error.

Nik Panico was hit by a pitch and made it to third on Nick Schumann's double to right field. Logan Riley loaded up the bases with a single. Derek Angelo drove Panico home in his ground out to tie up the game at 1-1.

The Owls took back the lead with a single and an RBI-double in the second inning.

Luis Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and stole second in the bottom of the third. Schumann hit it into an RBI-single to tie it back up at 2-2.

Oakton loaded up the bases and scored three runs in the fifth inning.

Elgin tied it up once again in the sixth inning. Angelo walked, Alijah Acevedo singled and each advanced one base on a balk. Erik Teran II hit a single to second to push Angelo home and move Acevedo to third.

ECC loaded up the bases again with Scott Emma getting hit by a pitch. Lorenzo Ranallo and Panico were each hit to drive in runs.

Oakton scored its seventh run in the seventh and Elgin was unable to counter in the bottom of the inning as they suffered the 6-5 loss.

Game 2: Oakton 0, Elgin 2 - Suspended due to darkness

Panico, Schumann and Riley loaded up the bases in the second inning. Teran hit an RBI-double to drive in two runs.

The game was suspended at the top of the fifth due to darkness. A date to continue play is to be determined.

The Spartans travel to Chicago Heights, Ill. to face Prairie State on Saturday beginning at noon.
