River Grove, Ill., - The Elgin Community College baseball team clinched its second win over Triton with a 5-1 victory on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans move to 7-3 as the Trojans dip to 7-11 on the season.
Justin Zimmerman earned the win at the mound after pitching six innings and allowing one run on four hits and striking out two batters.
Derek Angelo got things rolling in the second inning with a single to left and advanced to second on Alijah Acevedo's single. Each advanced an additional base due to an error. Erik Teran's groundout pushed Angelo across the plate for the first run of the game. Scott Emma hit an RBI-single to make it a 2-0 game.
Logan Riley got on base in the sixth after being hit by a pitch and stole second after surviving multiple pickoff attempts. Angelo's single sent him to third and he scored on a wild pitch during Acevedo's at bat.
Triton put its sole run on the board in the same inning with two doubles and a ground out to send the runner at third home.
Nick Schumann singled in the top of the eighth and stole second. Riley joined him on the bases with a walk. Angelo and Erik Teran hit RBI-singles to tack on an additional two runs for the 5-1 win.
The Spartans host Oakton for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
