Angelo Earns 750th Win in Doubleheader Sweep

Dixon, Ill. - Elgin Community College head baseball coach Bill Angelo earned his 750th win in game one of the team's doubleheader sweep of Sauk Valley on Thursday.

The Spartans move to 4-2 overall as the Skyhawks dip to 2-8.

Game 1: Elgin 9, Sauk Valley 4

Sauk Valley posted the first two runs in the first inning, but Elgin countered with four runs in the second. 

Erik Teran earned a walk and advanced home off of Alijah Acevedo's double. Eli Johnson walked and he and Acevedo stole second and third during Luis Rodriguez's at bat. An error by the catcher allowed Acevedo to score. Rodriguez grounded out to first, giving Johnson space to get to third base.

Nik Panico hit an RBI-triple and scored off of Nick Schumann's double to center field for the 4-2 lead.

SVCC put its third run on the board in the fifth after a single and an RBI-double.

Elgin loaded the bases early in the sixth after a walk and two batters getting hit by a pitch. Schumann drove in two runs with a single and Logan Riley followed with an RBI-double. Teran singled and Acevedo grounded out to make it a 9-3 game.

The Skyhawks scored its final run after a double and a walk for a final score of 9-4.

Game 2: Elgin 6, Sauk Valley 2

Panico started off game two with a double and advanced to third from Schumann's ground out. Riley hit a sacrifice fly to put a run on the board in the first inning.

Schumann got on base in the third due to an error and scored off of Derek Angelo's hard ground ball to right field. Angelo advanced to third and scored the third run with Teran's single to second.

In the fifth inning, Schumann once again made it to first on an error and Riley's double allowed him to score. Angelo hit an RBI single, advanced to second on the throw and to third from Acevedo's ground out to second base. Angelo scored the sixth run off of a wild pitch.

Sauk Valley scored two, but the game ended after five innings with a 6-2 final score.

The Spartans travel to River Grove, Ill. to face Triton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
